AI Companion App Pricing Index 2026: 14 Apps Compared

AI companion apps charge about $10 to $20 a month for their main paid plan, based on each app's own pages on November 1, 2026. The cheapest paid tiers are Character.AI lite at $4.99 and SpicyChat at $5.95. Paying yearly cuts the monthly cost by 11 to 71 percent, and Candy AI's yearly plan is the cheapest at £3.99 a month.

This index lists the monthly and yearly prices of 14 apps, taken from each app's pricing page, help center or app store listing. I recheck every price at the start of each month and record what changed in the change log below. Last checked November 1, 2026. Next check December 1, 2026.

AI companion app prices, November 2026

Prices are in US dollars except Candy AI and PolyBuzz, which showed pounds when I checked from the UK. They exclude sales tax and VAT unless the page says otherwise. The yearly saving compares the yearly price with twelve monthly payments, rounded to the nearest whole percent. Per-month figures divide the yearly price by twelve, so they can differ by a few cents from an app's own rounding. JanitorAI itself is free, and janitor+ is an optional add-on.

How I checked the prices

For each app I opened its own pricing page, help center or subscription FAQ on November 1, 2026. Where an app sells plans only inside its mobile app, I used its US App Store or Google Play listing. Those listings show in-app purchase prices, but often not which plan or billing period a price belongs to, and the table says so where that happens.

I did not create accounts or start any checkout, so a price you see after signing up, in another country or during a sale may differ. Where an app does not publish a figure, the table says not published rather than borrowing a number from another review. The wider checks we use are on our how we review page.

What is the cheapest AI companion app?

On a monthly plan, Character.AI lite is the cheapest paid tier at $4.99, followed by SpicyChat Get A Taste at $5.95 and CrushOn Standard at $5.99. If you only want text roleplay, JanitorAI costs nothing, which beats all of them.

On a yearly plan the order changes. Candy AI works out at £3.99 a month, CrushOn Standard at $4.91, and SpicyChat Get A Taste and the Nomi Launch Plan at $5.00 each. Our Candy AI review covers what that yearly plan includes and where its tokens go.

The entry tiers are not like for like. CrushOn's $5.99 Standard sits below four higher tiers, and Character.AI says lite adds a daily allowance of premium chat styles, fewer ads and more memory pins rather than everything in c.ai+. OurDream.ai, the app our home page points to, sits at the top of the main-plan range with Premium at $19.99 a month, and its Deluxe tier costs $59.99. A yearly plan halves either price, so Premium works out at $9.99 a month, billed as $119.88 at once. Images, video and voice calls spend Dreamcoins, though, and heavy image use can outrun the 1,000 a month that come with Premium. Its refund policy says unused time is generally non-refundable, so a yearly plan you quit early is money you will probably not see again. Our OurDream AI review has the details.

How much do you save by paying yearly?

The yearly discount varies far more than the monthly price does. Ranked by saving against twelve monthly payments:

• Candy AI: 71%
• OurDream.ai Premium and Deluxe, and the Nomi Launch Plan: 50%
• Nomi Standard: 48%
• CrushOn Premium: 47%
• CrushOn Luxe: 37%
• janitor+: 36%
• CrushOn Elite: 26%, and Imperial: 25%
• Character.AI c.ai+: 21%
• CrushOn Standard: 18%
• Kindroid, PolyBuzz Basic and Premium, and every Grok X Subscription tier: 17%
• SpicyChat: 16 to 17%
• PolyBuzz Ultimate: 11%

A yearly discount only saves money if you would have paid for twelve months anyway. Nomi says payments are generally non-refundable, xAI says its payments are final except where the law requires, and OurDream.ai says unused time is generally non-refundable. A yearly plan is a bet that you will still want the app in month eight, so a month on the monthly plan first is the cheaper way to find out.

Prices that are hard to pin down

Some apps make a clean number hard to give. These are the ones to treat with care if you quote them:

• Replika's help center names Pro, Ultra and Platinum plans and says the cost is shown in the app. Its App Store listing shows monthly purchases at $7.99 and $14.99, annual ones at $49.99 and $69.99, and Replika Platinum at $89.99 with no period, without saying which tier each price belongs to.
• Kindroid's own docs publish no prices and say you see the exact price for your country and platform at checkout, so its rows come from the US App Store.
• Nomi has no pricing page. The Standard prices come from a comparison article on its site, and the App Store lists Standard Plan at $15.99 without a period. The Launch Plan appears only on the App Store.
• AI Dungeon's help page mentions 6-month and 12-month memberships but gives no price for them.
• Character.AI's subscribe page shows c.ai+ at $94.99 a year and also shows $119.88, which is twelve times the $9.99 App Store price. The App Store lists both prices without labels, and Character.AI's blog says lite pricing varies by region.
• Grok companions have no plan of their own. xAI sells the X Subscription tiers above, and the App Store still lists older SuperGrok purchases from $10 to $300 without billing periods. See our guide to the Grok AI girlfriend for what is known about companions.
• Chai shows only a range of in-app purchase prices on Google Play, from $0.99 to $899.99, with no plan names.
• CrushOn's pricing page opens on yearly billing, so the first figure you see is a per-month price paid yearly. Premium is also shown as 25% off $19.99.
• Candy AI charges £9.99 for the first month, then £13.99, and shows prices in your local currency.
• PolyBuzz shows each price beside a crossed-out higher figure, such as £55.20 for a month of Basic. Our PolyBuzz review covers its plans and coins.

Extra costs on top of the plan

The subscription is not always the whole bill. Several apps sell credits or coins for images, voice or extra usage:

• OurDream.ai's Premium plan includes 1,000 Dreamcoins a month, and its upgrade page adds 1,000 bonus coins in the first month of yearly Premium, or 5,000 on yearly Deluxe. Images, video and voice calls spend them.
• Nomi sells extra credits from $4.99.
• Kindroid sells selfie credits from $6.99 for 50 on the App Store, plus audio credits and extra Kindroid slots. Its docs say web prices are usually cheaper than app store prices.
• Grok sells extra usage credits from $5, shared across one weekly usage pool on paid plans.
• PolyBuzz sells two in-app currencies on top of its plans.
• NovelAI's Opus plan includes 10,000 Anlas a month for images, and AI Dungeon tiers include a monthly credit allowance, from 760 credits on Journey to 5,200 on Ultimate.

Change log

Each entry is a price change with the date the app gave. From December 2026, entries will also record changes I spot between two monthly checks.

• November 1, 2026. Index first published with 14 apps.
• October 12, 2026. xAI announced the X Subscription tiers, from Plus at $8 a month to Ultra at $200. It says Premium replaces SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which cost $90 a month combined, and that existing plans continue.
• September 28, 2026. Character.AI introduced c.ai lite at $4.99 a month or $2.49 a week.
• September 8, 2026. SpicyChat raised its prices. Get A Taste went from $5.00 to $5.95 a month, True Supporter from $14.95 to $19.95, and the yearly I'm All In plan from $249.95 to $299.95. Existing subscribers keep their old price while their plan stays active and unchanged.

Verdict: the best-value AI companion plan

For most people, the best value is a yearly plan on an app you already know you like. Candy AI's yearly plan is the cheapest at £3.99 a month, and Nomi's Launch Plan and SpicyChat's Get A Taste both work out at $5.00 a month when paid yearly. If you only want text roleplay, JanitorAI costs nothing, and janitor+ at $12.99 a month is optional. If images and video matter, OurDream.ai is the app our home page points to. Its Premium plan is among the dearest at $19.99 a month, but paying yearly halves that to $9.99, with 1,000 Dreamcoins a month either way. Do not pay a year up front for an app you have not tried, because several of these apps limit refunds. Start monthly, give it a few weeks, then switch to yearly if you stay.
